Anthropology is a three-year major subject which may be studied for degree curricula in the Faculty of Humanities, Commerce and Science. In the first year, we offer an introduction to the scope and contemporary relevance of the discipline. We draw on ethnographic examples from southern Africa as well as the rest of the world. In Anthropology Two we deepen the discussion by focusing on specialist ethnographic and thematic topics. In the third year we provide a seminar-focused course, which continues the study of institutions and emphasises social change. In 2008 for example, we offer courses on tourism and change, the Indian Ocean world and field research. Take your time to browse our pages and our hardcopy calender so that you might know a little more about our courses and the department. You will also find quite a lot of information to help you along in anthropology in 2008 on this site.
