Larry’s primary research focus is in the area of qualitative audience studies.The focus of hisPhD in media studies was on therelationship that local youth have to global media. He has published extensively in journals on a variety of media related subjects. He has worked as a print media journalist and as a television cameraman. He is currently Deputy-Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and is on the editorial boards of Communicatio and Equid Novi.

Professor Guy Berger oversees all the school's projects. He also teaches and researches in new media, media policy, convergence and journalism education. He is chairperson of the Board of Grocott’s Mail, and writes a column online for
the Mail & Guardian. Berger is also active in the South African National Editors Forum, and won the organisation’s Nat Nakasa Award for media integrity in 2006.

Fackson currently teaches the following courses: Media Policy & Institutions (MA); Media Institutions & Economics (Undergraduate); and Media & Society (Honours).

His research and professional interests include political communication, media and democracy, policy and
community communication, and new media. He has authored several books in these fields, including publishing in academic and professional journals.

Robert teaches economics journalism, media histories, media law and ethics and media economics. He has published in the fields of media law and journalism practice, and is working on his Phd, a social and political history of South Africa’s financial press.
