Custodians of the Hall throughout history
Community of the Resurrection and the Grahamstown Training College
In 1894 the Sisters of the Community of the Resurrection founded the Grahamstown Training College, an institution which played a valuable part in the development of education in southern Africa, so much so that it was considered a "national loss" when it was forced to close down in 1974.

Rhodes University bought the property and in 1977 Canterbury Hall, comprised of Canterbury House and Winchester House, was born.
