Give5 2013
This year our Give5 Campaign will start with the GIVE5 FIRE WALK CHALLENGE which will take place on Friday 12th April at 18:30. Students and Staff are asked to walk across a 5 metre bed of hot coals to raise money for fellow students. The proceeds from this event will be split 50/50 between the Annual Fund Pocket Money Fund and any other Annual Fund Project that the Fire Walker chooses. Give5 Fire Walk Pamphlet Information
The Give5 Collection Campaign will run from the 15th April for a week and all the money collected during that week will go solely towards our Annual Fund Pocket Money Fund. Last year we raised R44 000 from Give5 and this means that Give5 is sponsoring 29 out of the 100 students who are receiving the Pocket Money Fund this year. The students get R150 per month which helps them to buy toiletries or stationery. The Pocket Money Fund has become very close to the hearts of our students because before Give5, many were not aware that there were fellow Rhodents amongst them who were battling financially. Some students assumed that Rhodes was middle class, therefore everybody could order take aways, go to the local or buy themselves a coke whenever they wanted to and Give5 made them aware that their study mate or res mate just might not be able to do the same. Our students sprung into action and every single Residence participated and contributed to the money raised. We need to ensure that we can continue to sponsor a further 29 students next year, and we are relying on our students to ensure that this does happen.
Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day - 28th February
CASE ASAP launched the first Student Engagement and Philanthropy Day on 28th Feb 2013 in which institutional members organised events and activities to enhance awareness and engagement of students in higher education advancement around the world. Rhodes SRC and Alumni Division invited students to join them for RU GAME? at the SRC Library Wall on the 28th February at 10:30 am in order to start our Give5 2013 Campaign.

The GIVE5 Fire Walk Challenge was launched! Students reacted enthusiastically and by lunch time we had over 36 pledges.
