Rhodes Reunion – Adelaide, South Australia (January 2012)

 An informal Reunion took place in Adelaide on Saturday afternoon, 21 January 2012. The event attracted 16 Old Rhodians (plus a couple of partners) from a ‘pool’ of approximately 45 local Old Rhodians. Unfortunately, though quite understandably, some were unable to attend owing to a variety of competing arrangements - committed to some time ago. Others – the majority of local ORs, were just simply not contactable – whether via e-mail, phone or in the mail, or just were not interested … sad as it may be.

 Regardless, those present had a fantastic time. Some startling co-incidences were uncovered, fascinating anecdotes were shared and a wide range of memories was enjoyed. The presence of one or two pictorial Rhodes books certainly seemed to act as a catalyst for reminiscing about ‘this and that’, and, in doing so, subliminally re-inforced the common bond between us (hitherto complete strangers to one another) … the fact that we went to Rhodes at some time in our lives, and that we had subsequently moved to Adelaide for whatever reason.

 No other forum would have provided such a platform, and especially with the Zimbabwe (nee Rhodesia) ties amongst some of us.
