Karen Ann Varga Ballard
Please note that one of your graduates, Karen Ann Varga Ballard (nee Lindsay), suddenly and tragically passed away on the 13th July 2012.
She is survived by her husband, Keith, her daughter, Georga, her mother, Erica Lindsay and her brother, Ian Lindsay.
Karen was 53 years old at the time of her death, and although she lived a full and successful life, she was far too young and healthy to be taken away from us. She was loved and respected by many and used her very special listening and intellectual skills to nurture and mentor many previously disadvantaged and other people who went on to become successful in their own right.
After spending a year at her first job at the Daily Despatch, she moved back to her hometown, Johannesburg, where she went on to became a successful heavyweight in the advertising and communications world and at the time of her passing, was running her own consultancy from home so she could be close to her only daughter.
Karen was always proud to be an ex “Rhodie” and your institution can be honoured to have had such a wonderful person to graduate there.
We all miss her terribly and we know she is in a better place doing a sterling job as per usual.
