RHODES UNIVERSITY ALUMNI
E-MAIL NEWSLETTER, DECEMBER 2009 - ISSUE 40
SEASON’S GREETINGS
We wish all Old Rhodians and their families a happy time during the festive season. Be safe and we hope 2010 brings greater opportunities and prosperity.
ROADS TO RHODES
Sally Lombaert (Serfontein 1999) hopes to pioneer an academic and sporting bursary for candidates with an exceptional academic and sporting record.
THE CONCEPT
Whilst embarking on her own personal adventure of attempting to do the Pick ‘n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Tour for the first time in 2010, she developed the idea of not only accomplishing this goal for herself; but to use the opportunity to create something special. As a proud Rhodes alumna, the answer was clear – provide those less fortunate with an opportunity to also experience a first class Rhodes education. And so “Roads to Rhodes” was born.
GOAL
To provide tuition and residence fees to a prospective student for a full 3 year undergraduate degree.
THE PLAN
Funds are to be raised through auctioning branding space on specially designed cycling tops, running tops and T-shirts, bearing the “Roads to Rhodes” logo and date. The bidding prices will vary, depending on size and positioning. For more information and the shirt designs with branding spaces go to: http://www.ru.ac.za/alumni/roadstorhodes.
If you wish to participate in this fantastic initiative either individually or as company please contact Sally at sally@ergomax.co.za
REUNIONS
Successful reunions were held in East London, Cape Town, George/Knysna, Johannesburg and Durban during the last few months. To view the pictures of all the reunions click here. If you did not receive an invitation please ensure that we have your current contact details – update at http://www.ru.ac.za/static/alumni/.
LUNCHEONS
We held 6 luncheons and an afternoon tea for our older Old Rhodians around the country. Again the pictures are available at click here.
ALUMNI BOOKSHELF
We have been advised of quite a few more books published by alumni authors. Please check out the new additions at: http://www.ru.ac.za/alumni/news/hotgossip/publishedbooks. If you have written a book recently and would like us to publicise it on our web page and through e-news, please let us know.
