Pocket Fund Money
APPEAL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO RHODES’ “POCKET-MONEY” FUND.
SARS ref 18/11/7/199
The Dean of Students’ “Pocket-money Fund” has now been running for 3 years, and it relies on personal monthly contributions from Rhodes staff to assist financially needy students who, despite receiving financial aid, have no money left after paying tuition fees and living expenses. Their chances of feeling at home, and having a typical ‘Rhodes experience’ are thus extremely limited.
The fund has grown steadily, and this year is helping 100 students with R130 pocket money per month for 10 months of this year – 30 more than last year. This makes a real difference in their lives, enabling them to join student societies, buy small items like toiletries, clothing or snacks, or save up for a bus trip home during vacations. Sadly we also have a growing list of the names of students who have asked for help because of their desperate financial need, but whom we cannot help because of our limited funds.
If you would also like to make a regular contribution to this special fund, a tax certificate will be arranged for you, and ensure that your donation goes to only the most needy students at Rhodes. In so doing, you will be contributing to transformation by enhancing their chances of integrating and improving their Rhodes experience. If you are willing to start making a monthly contribution, please contact alumni@ru.ac.za. Direct payment details are:
