Humanities Degrees
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
A Bachelor of Arts degree normally takes three years to complete.
Ten courses need to be completed which must include two major subjects.
To obtain a major subject, first, second and third year level courses must be completed,
for example: History 1, History 2, and History 3.
Some majors require only two courses, for example:
Classical Civilisation 1, Classical Civilisation 2. These are the exception however.

Bachelor of Fine Art (BFineArt)
The Rhodes Art School is the oldest in South Africa. Students are provided with excellent scope to develop creative and intellectual abilities within a flexible and supportive environment when reading for a Bachelor of Fine Art degree.
At the undergraduate level there are three main options students can choose when studying towards a degree in Fine Art:
Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA)
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Diploma of Fine Art (DFA)

Bachelor of Journalism (BJourn)
A Bachelor of Journalism degree is in great demand from industry role-players that
recognise the pedigree of this Rhodes degree. The standard is very high and entry
into second, third and fourth year is competitive since the demand is higher than the
space available.
At the undergraduate level there are two main options students can choose when
studying Journalism.
A Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) majoring in Journalism and Media Studies
and one other major subject (3 years).
Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies majoring in Journalism and Media Studies
(the other major is only taken for three years of the degree, while a specialisation
in one practical medium is taken in third and fourth year of the degree) (4 years).
* It should be noted that there is no difference between the BA route
and the BJourn route from first to third year

Bachelor of Social Science (BSocSc)
To obtain a BSocSc degree you must obtain 10 credits. At least 5 credits (courses),
including at least one major subject must be chosen from the following:

An African Language may be taken as the second major subject with a major in Anthropology.
