Research
I am interested in the broad field of lignocellulose biotechnology and enzymology, and more specifically in cellulases and their role in the bioconversion of lignocellulose. My approach focuses on the purification and characterisation of cellulases, and the subsequent application of these enzymes in enzymology/biotechnology. I am particularly interested in the role and effect of enzyme synergy for the enhanced degradation of lignocellulose (plant cell wall containing material). The mechanism/s underpinning the enzyme synergy is of special importance. Further research interests of mine include studying Bacillus hemicellulase multienzyme complexes and Bacillus EPSD/CPS production. Lastly, I also have a keen interest in the immobilisation of enzymes on to nanofibers for subsequent application in water/wastewater research.
