Graduation News
The Science Graduation ceremony took place on Thursday 7 April and the celebrations continued for our Chemistry graduands and their families at a morning tea party held in their honour in the Chemistry Department. The formal academic dress worn by the graduands and staff added a splash of colour to an enjoyable morning. Head of Department, Professor Nelson Torto addressed the assembled guests and congratulated all the graduands, making special mention of the achievements of the ten Masters (five of whom graduated with distinction) and five PhD graduates that graduated on Thursday evening.
The various course coordinators presented the respective class prizes to the following undergraduate chemistry students; Johnson and Johnson First Year Prize, Mr D Leith; Fine Chemicals Second Year Prizes, Ms Jo-Ann E Laurence and Ms Thandeka Moyo ; Merck Third Year Prize, Ms Shana Swart; Sigma Aldrich Honours Prize, Mr Matthew Coombs; CRC Honours Book Prize, Ms Sekai Tombe; Conrad Cambray Award, Ms Thandeka Moyo; Douglas Rivett Award, Mr Melody Manyeruke.
The third industrial project prize winners; Ms Akhona Qambela, Mr Charlton Mandebvu, Ms Bantubonke Ntsaluba also received their certificates.
