Mandy has a Masters Degree in Education from University of Melbourne in Australia with a focus on curriculum and educational policy.
Her teaching experience in Higher Education has been in the department of Child and Youth Development at Durban University of Technology. The responsibility she enjoyed most was her role of co-ordinating Work Integrated Learning placements for students. Mandy worked in the field of Academic Development as Durban University of Technology's Extended Studies Co-ordinator.
Since joining the CHERTL, her main focused interest has been in disciplinary knowledge and the impact is has on curricula. The Community Engagement continuum is an important aspect which Higher Education Institutions continue to grapple to conceptualize for their particular contexts. Within the continuum is the Service-Learning ambit which is the focus of her PhD research.
