Members of the Rhodes University community and former students will be saddened to hear that Brenda Bell has died.  She taught in the Classics Department here from 1985 to 1994, and is remembered as a lively and inspiring presenter of Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation.  She was also very actively involved at the Black Sash Advice Office.  During the same period her late husband Trevor served as professor in the Economics Department.  On his retirement they moved to Durban, where Brenda worked in Administration - mostly academic planning - at the University of Natal and (after the amalgamation of various institutions of tertiary education) the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal.  She had recently retired from the latter.

She is survived by her mother, her two daughters and her grandson.

The funeral will take place in Durban on Tuesday.
