The Drama department presents a double bill of theatre:
Bayephi (Silver Ovation award winner 2017) directed by Thembela Madliki
Silver Ovation award winner for NAF 2017, winner of the 2016 Best Student production and Most promising director presents 'Bayephi?', a work of magical realism that evokes nostalgia and emotion through the senses. In it, a young girl commits herself to finding her brother's restless spirit. The work asks, where are they or where have they gone?
Rhythm of Makhanda directed by Ayanda Nondlwana
Loosely adapted from the book The Return of Makhanda by Prof Julie Wells, the piece fuses dance and poetry to tell the story of the Battle of Grahamstown between the amaXhosa and the British soldiers in 1819. Featuring local artists and pantsula dancers from Via Kasi Movers, which won the 2016 Makana Drama Development Festival, annually hosted by Ubom! Eastern Cape Drama Company.
