Date Released: Thu, 18 January 2018 08:54 +0200

Aphelele Jezi, Ntsika Secondary School matric class of 2017, was named top learner in the Sarah Baartman District. In 2017 Aphelele was part of Nine Tenths, a mentorship programme designed for matric learners in three historically disadvantaged Grahamstown schools.

Aphelele achieved distinctions for Maths, Physical Science, Life Sciences and isiXhosa, with his other three subjects in the 70s (English, Life Orientation and Geography). Ntsika made it into the top five performing schools in the District.

Anna Talbot, who is the coordinator for the Nine Tenths programme describes Aphelele as a learner who is very articulate with good leadership skills as he was also the Headboy at Ntsika in 2017. "It's great to see that Aphelele is doing private tutoring as well", said Anna.

A more comprehensive article on Aphelele's story can be found on the Grocott's Mail website where he also shares a few tips for 2018's matric class.
