Tweet your way through the Chain

Date Released: Mon, 24 February 2014 15:59 +0200

Twitter will connect people in a conversation about the concept of the Human Chain, what it means to them, and how they are continuing Mandela's legacy.

The organisers are hoping to spark spontaneous involvement on the day through the use of the #humanchaingrahamstown twitter handle.

Nosipho Mngomezulu, Rhodes University community engagement representative and co-organiser, stressed the importance of social media: "I would love for people to be engaged in the online discussion," said Mngomezulu. Organisers of the Grahamstown Human Chain event have also invited everyone to share their thoughts and experiences on "Living the legacy" through the Facebook event's page and Twitter handle.

Participants are encouraged to post pictures of themselves engaging in any of the activities on the "Living the legacy" list. While social media participation is being encouraged, Mngomezulu urged moderation: She said participants could miss out on the experience owing to constantly posting updates. Pictures and experiences can be uploaded to the Grahamstown Human Chain website, Grahamstown Human Chain Facebook page or Twitter.
