RUMEP
Involvement in AMESA: Association for Mathematics Education in SA.
RUMEP staff member, Zonia Jooste is the Chairperson of the Grahamstown Branch of the association. RUMEP plays a leading role in the organisation with regards to the supply of resources in activities organised for the development of mathematics in township schools. Zonia Jooste and Tom Penlington organised the Soccer World Cup Mathematics event which took place during May 2010 at Rhodes University and was attended by learners and teachers from 8 primary township schools. Saturday classes for primary school learners are being organised for concept development of Learning Outcome 2: Patterns, functions and algebra integrated with Art and Technology.
Zonia Jooste is also involved in teaching and demonstrations of mathematics topics that teachers find challenging at Good Shepherd primary school.
These
sessions happen on request by teachers. Foundation Phase teachers at this school requested assistance in the classroom regarding the teaching and learning of fractions and mathematical games.
AMESA members will also present activities to primary school learners and
teachers during National Mathematics Week 2 - 6 August 2010
