The E-learning project

This project provides Grade 10 to 12 teachers and learners with access to Learning Channel lessons in the following subjects: Pure Mathematics, Maths Lit, Science, Life Sciences, Accounting, English Home Language and English First Additional Language. The content is fully endorsed by the National Education office.
The lesson package includes content lessons, a workbook and assessment. The workbooks can be printed but this is not essential as learners are able to copy content directly from the system if the school does not have funds for printing. No textbooks are required.
In order to utilise the content, schools are provided with a lockable, movable trolley which stores: a computer tower housing all content, a monitor, keyboard and mouse as well as a data projector, amplified speakers and a DVD player.
Two Grahamstown High Schools have benefitted from the donation of machines in 2012. Khutliso Daniels Secondary school received two machines in May and in October four machines were donated to Ntsika Senior Secondary school.
The machines have been utilised daily by both learners and teachers who have all been fully trained in the use of the hardware as well as the format and content of the lessons. This exciting project not only assists strained teachers (coping with overcrowded classes, content knowledge gaps and daily time constraints affecting proper lesson planning) but also learners who are able to use the system independently for reinforcement and revision.
