Feedback From Students
Daniella favis: 2012 Chair of Inkwenkwezi Society
"Inkwenkwezi, an early childhood education society at Rhodes, is a group functioning independently of RUCE. Nevertheless, RUCE has supported Inkwenkwezi's endeavours wholeheartedly since its inception, and the society would never have had even half as successful a year without their help. This year, RUCE made it possible to double Inkwenkwezi's student volunteer base. They provided transport for almost 200 volunteers to five local schools once to twice a week, where these students have had a hand in stimulating a love for reading in 250 early primary school learners. With RUCE's invaluable help and guidance, Inkwenkwezi is fast expanding."
Jocelyn Coldrey: 2012 Chair of Masincedane Society
"Masincedane Soup kitchen Society as had a fantastic year. Where the students and their relationship with the community has flourished, whilst everyone has been working together in order to make the soup kitchen operate as efficiently and sustainably as possible. The society has made a breakthrough with a gardening project which started off as a student incentive, evolved into a partnership, and now is entirely run by those who rely on the soup kitchen. Though this transformation is very minor on the big scale of things, it is a positive step in the right direction for community engagement and Rhodes University. RUCE is always there to offer us guidance and advice, which in moments of frustration and rejoice has been unequivocally necessary for the sanity of all those involved in the Soup Kitchen."
