Mandela Day 2012
Trading Live for Mandela Day 2012

The Rhodes University Community Engagement (RUCE) office, in partnership with the Rhodes University Human Resources (HR) Division, is proud to announce the inaugural Trading Live for Mandela Day initiative, to take place on 27 July 2012. In line with the central objective of Mandela Day, this project provides Grahamstown community members an opportunity ”to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good"
The idea behind Trading Live is that all Rhodes staff and Grahamstown community members, including Community Partners affiliated with Rhodes donate 67 minutes of their time on the 27th of July 2012 by trading their skills, talents, interests or hobbies with other interested parties in Grahamstown.
Ideas include presenting a lecture or workshop or sports clinic, running a cooking or sewing or toy making class, offering a car wash or spring cleaning service, giving a musical or choir or drama performance, producing a delicious traditional cultural food dish with an explanation of why this dish is important to your culture.
Recognising that we all have something to offer one another in our community and each other, Trading Live for Mandela Day seeks to build bridges and encourage new reciprocal relationships to emerge in Grahasmtown hence the slogan for the day: Masibambisane siluluntu lwaseMakana.
Please note that for students to participate they will need to do so on behalf of a student organisation (a society/hall/residence/oppie group)
For more information please contact Ntuthu Blow at n.blow@ru.ac.za or on 046 603 7524.

2010
Mandela Day is a call to action for people everywhere to take responsibility for making the world a better place, one small step at a time, just as Nelson Mandela did.

Nelson Mandela spent more than 67 years serving his community, his country and the world at large. On Mandela Day people are called to devote just 67 minutes of their time to changing the world for better, in a small gesture of solidarity with humanity, and in a small step towards a continuous global movement for good.

Staff of RUCE and few student volunteers responded to this international call, by spending a day with senior citizens at Ethembeni Day Care Centre on Friday, 30th July 2010.
