The National Arts Festival held every winter in Grahamstown is the largest event of its kind in the country. Thousands of people converge on the town to experience the best that South Africa has to offer in the performing arts.

During the University vacations, comfortable, single-room accommodation and meals are offered for the National Arts Festival at reasonable rates. This accommodation is in the Universities Residences that accommodate thousands of guests every year, many of whom come again and again.

All residences are situated on the University campus within a radius of approximately 1.5km from the main administration building. The latter is situated at the top of High Street (the main street in the town) in Grahamstown.

THE FESTIVAL 'HOTELS' i.e. upmarket student residences

Further to our residence accommodation, Rhodes University offers limited accommodation in two dedicated Festival 'Hotels' i.e. Margaret Smith and Ruth First.  Both are equipped with personalised touches, regrettably 'no en suite' bathrooms.

The following options are available:

Option 1: Rhodes Festival 'Hotel': B&B single R425.00 per person per night

Option 2: Rhodes Festival 'Hotel' B&B sharing R370 per person per night sharing

Option 3: Rhodes Residence Accommodation B&B R320.00 per person per night

Option 4: Rhodes Residence Accommodation - Bed Only R285.00 per person per night

Arrivals and Departures

Visitors may book into a residence any time after 14:00 on the day of their booking.

Guests are requested to sign out before 10:00 on the day of their departure.

For your safety and comfort and that of fellow guests, please note that SINGLE rooms are designed to accommodate ONE PERSON at a time.
