Heritage Month: historical tours of Grahamstown

Makana Tourism is showcasing the history of Grahamstown through a series of tours aimed especially at local residents. These will guided at a nominal fee to defray costs or else will be complimentary.

Saints Sinners and Students - 22nd September
Fleur Way-Jones will give her well known walking tour of the Saints, Sinners and Students. Learn about the military history of Grahamstown and how much change has come to the city. Find serenity and calm in the beautiful Makana Botanical Gardens so find out what all the fuss is about in the ‘Saints, Sinners and Students’ tour.
Meet at the Albany Museum at 10h00, price R 35 per person

Heritage Day Tour - 24 September 2009
Grahamstown’s newest guide Otto Ntshebe of Ottours will do a debut tour of the historic core of Fingo Village and surrounds. The tour will include, the Egazini battle field, the ghosts of Sugar Loaf Hill, the descendants of King Lobengula, a traditional lunch, a donkey cart tour and an Art Performance.
Time: 11:00 hours. Price R 190 all inclusive. Per person

Settler Skeletons - 26 September 2009
A walking tour of the historic residential areas led by Grahamstown’s well known tour guide Fleur Way Jones.
Meet at the Albany Museum at 10:00 Price R 35.

Central Grahamstown - 28 September 2009
Tour Guide Gill Wylie will give a walking tour of Grahamstown’s historic core.
Meet outside the Makana Tourism Offices at 10h00. Free

Ghosts and Ghouls of Grahamstown - 29 September 2009
Brian Jackson will give a walking tour of haunted places and pubs please bring pub money.
Meet outside Makana Tourism at 18:30.

Spirits of the Past - 30 September 2009
Renowned Grahamstown Guide Allan Weyer will give one of his famed talks at Gunfire Hill outside Fort Selwyn. Please bring a folding chair and a picnic tea and warm clothing if necessary.
Meet at Gunfire Hill outside Fort Selwyn at 16.00. Price R 25
