Welcome to Jameson!
Dear Future ladies of Jameson house,
First and foremost I would like to congratulate you upon your acceptance into this great institution. Rhodes University is a diverse environment that enables you to grow in all important aspects of your life.
You are officially a member of the Jameson family and I would like to take this opportunity to afford you a warm welcome. Jameson house is a small residence with only 61 girls which enables friendships to develop, making this your home away from home.
Situated in the heart of campus, Jameson House is only five minutes away from all major lecture venues and the Sanatorium is close at hand for any health emergencies. Because your primary reason for being at varsity is academics, the library is right outside our front door so you do not have to trek long distances.
Jameson House ranks highly in academics and this is a source of great pride and motivation for all the young ladies here at Jameson. We have a mentor programme where mentors are available to help you if you need and these are from 2ndyear to postgraduate level. First years are paired with older students from the house committee in order to help you settle into the life at Rhodes University.
Jameson House is part of Courtney-Latimer Hall and together with two other residences; Beit and Oriel, we have several hall functions throughout the year that enable niches of friendships to grow. Such functions include the Welcome Dinner, garden parties in the Botanical gardens, fund-raising events, community projects as well as Hall Braais.
Moving and settling into university can be a nerve-wrecking experience. We as a committee of seven ladies are willing and ready to help you at all times. With its diverse environment, Rhodes is a fantastic university with a variety of opportunities and living in Jameson House will definitely enhance your experience.
The Warden and House Committee 2013 look forward to receiving you in Orientation Week =)!!
With Love,
Carol
Head Student 2013
