ECD Practitioners around Grahamstown and areas within a 100 km radius are offered training at NQF Level 4 and 5 and have the opportunity to further their career paths by studying for an in-service Bachelor of Education Degree in Foundation Phase, specialising in ECD. A partnership with Rhodes University Education Faculty makes this possible. On-site monitoring, support and quality assurance form a vital part of our training.
Recently though CSD has spread its wings to once again bring our training closer to people who are situated much further than the 100 km radius. In July we started training Debenek ECD teachers who sought after our courses after a successful run of the 2008 course with the first 20 ECD Level 4 situated in Debenek and Keiskammahoek. Even more recently, is the launch of the Northern Cape Consortium in association in which three Rhodes University Institutes were awarded funding by the Sishen Iron Ore Community Development Trust. The Centre for Social Development, Institute for the Study of English in Africa and the Rhodes University Mathematics' Education Programme will offer an n-service B. Ed degree to 36 teachers in two districts.
