The first contact session of the BEd (Part-time) Foundation Phase Degree took place from 4 -7 January 2017 at the Rhodes University Education Department. The CSD welcomed 19 first year students who are privately funded and 31 third year students who are funded by Sishen Iron Ore Company Community Development Trust in the Northern Cape.  A new student commented “I love the lecturers and how well they interact with us. They acknowledged all the students and made us feel very welcome.” We also welcomed two new lecturers to the BEd part-time lecturing team, namely, Mrs Angi Jones and Ms Thembsi Ralo. The contact session programme was jam-packed and the students went home with 9 assignments which must be completed by 2 April 2017.

Some students will be writing supplementary exams on 23, 24 and 27 January 2017. We wish them good luck with their endeavours. Mrs Masentle Heyns, a BEd graduate from the previous Northern Cape cohort has very kindly offered to assist Mrs Johanna Muroa, the School Support Facilitator in the Northern Cape with invigilation. Mrs Heyns was a dedicated, hardworking student and it is wonderful that we able to call on her to assist us on the programme.
