The Centre for Social Development hosted a “jazz in the park” picnic on Sunday 20 March on the Drostdy Lawns of Rhodes University as part of their yearlong 30th birthday celebrations. The line-up featured four talented young men from Graeme College that enthralled the crowds with their acapello version of songs like Josh Groban’s “You raise me up” and many more. The hugely popular Kingswood College Jazz band also had young and old on their feet and played some classic and contemporary jazz music. SAGA, a local artist relaying stories through song was followed by Café Con Leche, a local afro-latin band. The event was organised in partnership with the Rhodes SRC as well as Rhodes Music Radio and was aimed at raising funds for the CSD’s various projects as well as launching their birthday celebrations.
