Jenny Hodgskiss joined the Centre for Social Development (CSD) in February 2011. She recently returned to South Africa after working as the Co-ordinator of the Kindergarten Department at Muscat International School, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman for 3 ½ years.
Jenny graduated with a Master Degree in Education (English Language Learning) from Rhodes University in 2007. With the introduction of the new curriculum in South Africa which has brought a new approach to literacy in the Foundation Phase (Grades R – 3), she chose to conduct her research in the field of emergent literacy.
Jenny has 17 years formal teaching experience in Primary Education: 7 years in the Intermediate Phase and 10 years in the Foundation Phase, more particularly Grade R. She is an ardent supporter in advocating the importance of Foundation Phase education, especially pre-primary education for young children. Jenny is passionate about teaching and enjoys working with learners from different backgrounds.
Jenny’s experience in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase education includes classroom teaching, teacher- training, curriculum development and management in South Africa and Oman. She has 12 years teacher-trainer experience; 9 years full-time and 3 years part-time. She has taught on both the Diploma in Education (Primary) and the National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE) in the Eastern Cape. She enjoys training teachers in both academic and community environments.
