Want to get to know our intern a bit better? Here's a note from Zinzi introducing herself....
My name is Zinziswa Dili, born and bred in Grahamstown, it was only natural that I start working here as well. Last year I dusted myself off from doing nothing with my life and went back to college. I did my Management Assistant’s course at Eastcape Midlands College. That is where I reminded myself that great things only happen when you aim for them.
When I applied for the Clerical Internship I was busy writing my N5 exams. I tried my best not to think about making it on the short-list. I was one of over 400 applicants who wanted a chance to be an intern at the prestigious Rhodes University. I still pinch myself at the idea that I was chosen. Working at the Centre for Social Development has been a huge learning curve for me. I look forward to new challenges every day. My colleagues have been incredibly supportive at the fact that I am learning and allow me a few mistakes. It has really boosted my self confidence and my persistence to keep pushing further. Being a young person living at a time when most young people want to have things handed to them I think that my personal drive and determination has gone a long way into moulding the person that I am now.
I am grateful that Rhodes University is making these opportunities available to those who want them. Sometimes all a person needs is a foot in the right door then the rest is up to them. I’m blessed and privileged to be working for CSD.
