On the week of the 30th January 2017 CSD had a contact/training session on political and socio-economic factors that impact on community development. The youth we are working with are highly motivated to make an impact in their communities and as a result, we had passionate discussions and debates. We discussed what poverty is, not just a layman’s definition and various perspectives and theories on poverty and development. The depth of poverty in our communities is a cause for concern as this breeds many social ills that become a cycle that never ends for each generation.

On the last day I was busy marking their class test and I had this massive ’surprise’, I was shocked by some noise and looked up as the students were singing happy birthday. I totally did not expect this because my birthday was on the following week. I was laughing and crying at the same time, it was not the end of the surprise because I got a card and a gift as well. This was a nice ending to an interesting week as well.
