St Mary's Toy Library Construction

Monday 23 January 2017 the installation of the Wendy House Toy Library at St Mary’s started.   The builder and his team were there to start the job.  The site to install were their vegetable garden plots, with Martha’s help she told us that the fencing and the big tree to be removed to allow the space.  After some suggestions from all concerned parties, the Wendy House was set facing the road.   The builder told us that they will finish their work within three days as they will be working after working hours.  The building was quickly built and it’s so beautiful.  Parents and learners at St Mary’s are interest to come and use it.  This will be the site of a fully functioning Toy library, a collaboration with GADRA and their literacy programme entitled ‘Whistle stop school’ and a place for parent project to support parents in their role as care givers able to provide their children with a solid education. The CSD will be conducting EGRA testing for the Grade 3 learners at St Mary’s with a view to informing GADRA where the gaps are and how best to fill them with their literacy programme.  All of this feeds into the VC’s project of ‘Masifunde Sonke’ which aims to uplift education in Grahamstown starting at ECD level.  CSD is proud to be part of this venture.
