Data Management Unit
The function of the Data Management Unit is to :
- Provide access to data used for efficient administration and running of the University. This data includes Financial as well as Student records and Enrolment information
- Ensure that systems exist to collect such data with ease and accuracy. These systems should be modern and constantly revised and revamped
- Provide data analyses used for Planning and Enrolments. This data should be accurate, and where possible, proactive rather than reactive data strategy is encouraged
- Facilitate Business Processes for all Administrative areas within the University. This includes assisting administrative sections in sourcing current trends and applications as well as integrating them into the existing services
The Data Management Unit commits itself to:
- Modern techniques and tools as well as cost effective spend on existing systems
- Ensuring continuity exists within the team and eliminating resource risk
- Accurate data
- User friendly front ends
The Data Management Unit has two streams. A Graphical User Interface stream exists for ensuring that the administrative functions have modern screens that are easy to use and provide functionality as defined by Business Process. A HEMIS/Data stream exists to ensure that HEMIS data is submitted accurately and on time as well as data being accessible to be used where necessary for Planning purposes. Neither stream is however independent of the other and the Data Management Unit is committed to providing a ‘solid team’ that supports the University needs.
The Data Management Unit is currently in a two to four year phase of transforming old legacy systems into modern GUI front ends. Suggestions and feedback should be sent to n.ripley@ru.ac.za
Requests for day to day data and changes to existing systems should be emailed to dmu@ru.ac.za.
