Applying
Babies
- The Day Care Centre is available to children of staff and students at Rhodes University or one of its associated institutions.
- The Centre caters for children between the ages of one and five. Children are admitted from the age of 12 months provided they have learned to walk. The last year a child can attend the Day Care is the calendar year it turns five. (The year before it starts grade R)
- Parents can apply for a place for their child either in full-day care or half-day care. Priority of the full-day places will be given to children over the age of two.
- To participate in the general intake of children for the following year, parents must apply by the 15th of September. Children already at the Centre also need to re-apply by this date if they want to continue at the Centre next year. Children currently enrolled are ensured a place for next year if they have not turned five yet.
- The Co-ordinator of the Centre will normally contact the parents by the end of October to indicate whether a place is available for their child. If your child has not been accepted but otherwise fill the eligibility criteria it will be placed on a waiting list. Whenever there is a place available during the year, the Centre will first contact the parents of the child at the top of the waiting list and offer them the place.
- Parents may also apply for a place at the Centre at any other time of the year, and if a place is available the child will be able to start at the Centre immediately. It is however strongly recommended that parents apply for next year during the general intake in September, as the chances of obtaining a place is much higher.
