Mr Acty Tang

Acty Tang is aninterdisciplinary arts practitioner in physical theatre, dance and choreography, site-specific performances, devised theatre and video dance, having creating over 20 pieces in these genres. He has a Master of Arts degree in Drama at Rhodes University.   


Acty was the winner of the Young Artist Award for Dance at the South African National Arts Festival in 2007, and a nominee for a Handspring Award for Visual Theatre in 2010. His works have been presented across South Africa, in Hong Kong and in Beijing, China; works created with various collaborative collectives have also been presented in Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan and Macau.


For over a decade in South Africa he worked with the First Physical Theatre Company, and  had also worked on projects with director Brett Bailey (South Africa) and choreographer John Allen (USA). In recent years in Hong Kong, Acty performed in dance work Body I.D. Space IV by Victor Ma, butoh work Curious Fish by Katsura Kan, drama Western Xia Hotel by Yan Pat To, and short film Nothing’s Gonna Change My World by Trista Ma which was an award winner at Hong Kong’s Fresh Wave Short Film Festival in 2013.


Acty is currently teaching theatre theory, contemporary performance practice, acting and contemporary dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Rhodes University, South Africa.
