Inter-res Sports at Rhodes
Inter-residential sports (Inter-res sports) at Celeste House, give Celeste residents an opportunity to take part in fun and exciting sports as well as the opportunity to represent in the recreational sports events organised by the Rhodes Sports co- coordinators.
Soccer, athletics, swimming, tennis, archery and mountain climbing are just some of the sports activities that the inter- res sports programme includes for recreational purposes and as the Rhodes Department of Sports’ effort to develop great sportsmanship, a fun, exciting and supportive culture amongst both the “sporty” and “non- sporty” students at the University’s residences. Therefore; although most of the residents who take part in inter-res sports are unskilled the inter-res sports activities, they enjoy the events and the team spirit.
To support the growth and development the sports culture and alcohol free fun amongst residences, the Celeste sport representative liaises with the Rhodes Sports department to co-ordinate inter-res sports, so that Celeste residents have the opportunity to take part in some of the fun and exciting sports prepared by the sports club at Rhodes.
Celeste’s Team Spirit
Celeste Residence show great focus and a greater degree of interest in their academics than sports (with the exception of a few adventurous academics). However; Residents’ inter –res sports experiences have often proven to be as challenging as well as fun and rewarding because the outcome is often the satisfaction of a team of Celeste residents after a limitlessly fun sport experience.
Some of the sports highlights include Celeste House took apart in mountain climbing, where some of the ladies decided to do indoor climbing for the first time. The experience was unnerving for most in the same breathe the experience was hilarious as each member attempted to push one of their climbers up the wall from below them. The event ended with laughter in reflection of the team’s experience and a sense of satisfaction with a worthwhile hour from the strain of academic pressure.
Near the end of the year Celeste residents are often busy with academic responsibilities, in the wrapping up of research tasks and preparation for exams; however this year Celeste residents found the Allan Web Hall Adventure, an annual charity fund raising event, a worthwhile endeavours to take part in. The Res team had a great experience, pulling with great strength at the tug of war, aiming for the kill at sling shot and devouring hot wings at the food competition. The experience was one to be well remembered by both the team and its supporters.
