Water Research Commission awards EBRU R1,5 million for IAPS study
Professor Keith Cowan and his group at EBRU were recently informed that they had been awarded a R1,5 million grant by the Water Research Commission (WRC) to examine the performance and efficacy of Integrated Algae Ponding Systems (IAPS) in waste water treatment. This is indeed good news for EBRU and the IAPS technology originally developed at Rhodes University. EBRU Have already established a collaboration with Dutch consulting engineers DHV and their South African subsidiary SSI to assist in the development and transfer of the technology and a joint project between these groups and Makana Local Municipality to erect the first full scale commercial IAPS facility is still a real possibility.
