Guest Speaker at Economics Postgraduate Conference


The Department of Economics and Economic History was privileged to have Prof Luc D’Haese as the guest speaker at the annual Postgraduate Conference. Presently, he is Emeritus Professor of Applied Biological Science at University of Antwerp and Emeritus Professor of Rural Development and Development Economics at the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, University of Ghent. Prof D’Haese is also Extraordinary Professor of Agricultural Economics at the Universities of Stellenbosch and Pretoria and a Fellow of Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies. Previously he served as CEO of the Belgian Technical Cooperation, managed the International Course in Food and Nutrition at the University of Ghent for more than 15 years and was Professor at University of Burundi from 1977 to 1992. Prof D’Haese has worked all round the world in a range of capacities, but mainly in agricultural related projects, which include, inter alia, agribusiness, food security, project evaluation, nutrition and farming systems research. At the conference he presented a paper entitled “Food Security and related aspects: a complex interdisciplinary matter”.
