Ms Sarah Murray

Sarah teaches on the following programmes: PGCE, BEd (Hons) and MEd (English Language Teaching). She has supervised a number of Masters’ theses.
Her main teaching and research interest is in literacy. Since the beginning of 2008, she has been teaching four Grade 9 and 10 learners who struggle to read and write. by developing their literacy in English while a colleague, Gladys Tyatya, does so in isiXhosa. They also teach a small group of Grade 2 learners and are learning much from these experiences about literacy development in bilingual contexts. Arising out of this project, they have come together with other individuals working in the field to form the Grahamstown Literacy Forum who meet regularly and intend to launch a website in the near future.
Sarah is a member of the Kenton Education Association and serves on the PIRLS steering committee.
