Callie Grant joined the Rhodes Faculty of Education in October 2011 having previously done a nine year stint at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she held the post of Lecturer and later on Senior Lecturer. Within the field of Education, her area of teaching and research interest is Educational Leadership and Management (ELM). She currently teaches the ELM elective on the Bachelor of Education Honours programme in Grahamstown as well as the Master of Education programme in ELM. She has also been involved in the co-ordination and teaching of the Research Design course over the last few years and she enjoys her involvement in the Education Doctoral Programme. As many of the ELM programmes are located at the post-graduate level, she spends much of her time supervising masters and doctoral scholars.
Callie’s primary research interest has revolved around teacher leadership from a distributed leadership perspective. In addition, she is interested in educational leadership for social justice, leadership as it relates to professionalism and the relationship of leadership to school resilience. She is also interested in the field of doctoral studies, particularly as it relates to PhDs with publications, having completed her own PhD via this route. Her most recent research interest is located in the field of Higher Education and stems from her own postgraduate teaching and supervision.
Callie is a member of the South African Education Research Association (SAERA), the Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA), the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management (CCEAM) and the British Educational Leadership, Management and Administration Society (BELMAS) and she is a reviewer for a number of national and international journals. She is also a National Research Foundation (NRF) C3 rated researcher.
