Ms M-J Jackson – BA Hons-ELT (Rhodes); B.Ed ( Univ. of Natal)
The Professional Development Centre (PDC) was established to coordinate the in-service teacher training programmes of the RU Education Department. M-J was appointed manager of the PDC in March 2008. She has 10 years’ teaching experience, particularly in the Intermediate Phase and in a context where English is an additional (or foreign) language. M-J has also managed and facilitated in-service teacher development initiatives while employed by the Winterberg Schools’ Trust – a community-based NPO located in a rural area of the Eastern Cape.

Research Interests
M-J is currently registered as a part-time Masters (ELT) student at Rhodes University, researching English reading-literacy development in an additive bilingual context.
M-J is also a team member of the ABLE (Additive Bilingual Education) Project – a longitudinal study, researching the practical implementation of the Language in Education Policy and the effect of mother-tongue based bilingual education on learners’ language development, cognitive processing skills and academic achievement.
