Rob O'Donaghue
Rob works in the Environmental Education and Sustainability Centre (EESU) as director of the Gold Fields Service Centre with the following responsibilities as Associate Professor in the RU Education Department: PhD programme coordinator; MEd EE thesis supervision; PGCE (IP) Science; PGCE Environmental Education Module; Short course in environment, health and sustainability education.
Previous teaching experience:
1974- 1983 in primary education as a class teacher and later head of department.
1984-2002 Senior Professional Officer (Education) Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife as coordinator of nature-based environmental education in KwaZulu-Natal.
Research Interests:
Process sociology, social learning and reflexive social change
Science, technology and sustainable practices
Indigenous knowledge practices.
Currently:
He is currently working with local and international partners on Handprint materials that are centred on authentic stories to start-up and support local enquiry and learning actions. Most of the fieldwork and sustainable practices materials are available through Share-Net, a cooperative, open access, low cost publishing initiative that Jim Taylor and he initiated within the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA) in the early 1990s.
