Advanced Studies in Environment & Sustainability Education

Adv Studies in Env & Sus Education
The Rhodes University Education Department’s Environmental Learning Research Centre (ELRC) offers a range of studies in environment and sustainability education. These include:
• Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Environment and Sustainability Education. These courses offer practicing teachers or educators with a three-year post-schooling qualification, an opportunity to specialise in the field of environment and sustainability education in a range of educational contexts. The courses attract educators from conservation organisations, community education contexts, workplace learning contexts, as well as schools, colleges and universities. The courses are offered over a two-year period in a semi-distance (block session) format. The focus is on specialising in environmental education and improving practice. An action research project is included in the second year of study.
• Elective programmes are offered in the Bachelor of Education Honours Degree, the Advanced Diploma in Education, Post-Graduate Diploma in Education, and in Advanced Certificate in Teaching Qualifications. Scholars registering for these courses at Rhodes University will be able to specialise or complete elective courses in environment and sustainability education.
These qualifications provide various access routes to the Masters Degree in Environment and Sustainability Education. Details can be discussed with the course co-ordinators.
The next course is scheduled to begin in 2013.
