Professional Development Workshops and Public Education
ELRC Professional Development Workshops are free and open to the public. They are normally between 1-3 days long and aim to introduce the broader community to new theory and practice around environment and sustainability education. Examples of workshops running under this programme include:
• Environmental Learning in the Workplace: This workshop shares approaches to improving the quality of workplace learning and training.

• From Footprints to Handprints: This workshop shares how to integrate positive, action-centered approaches into environmental education programmes.

• Environmental Teaching Practices: This workshop hares how to design and develop environmental teaching practices using a variety of methods that improve the quality of teaching.

• Research Learning: This workshop looks at the relationship beween knowledge, practice and learning in educational programmes.

ELRC Public Education Activities range from public lectures organized during the National Arts and National Science Festivals in Grahamstown, to demonstrations of new sustainability practices. Arts-based performances and exhibitions are a key feature of public education at the ELRC’s Sustainability Commons. This programme is run by student organizations and ELRC scholars.
