Prof Jay O'Keeffe
PhD in Applied Biology (Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University)
The former director of the Institute for Water Research at Rhodes University has recently returned from a six year stint in the Netherlands, where he worked for WWF as a Professor of Freshwater Ecosystems. Jay is currently serving as a Research Associate at the ELRC while supporting Masters and PhD students with their projects. As a professor and consultant for over 30 years, he has contributed to legislation, research and projects focusing on catchment management planning and its social implications. Jay received the Gold Medal Award in 2004 for his outstanding contributions in the field of research and management development in the aquatic sciences in South Africa.
