MASTERS IN EDUCATION (ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION)
This Masters degree is designed for practicing environmental education, training and development practitioners, including teachers with various subject specialism, lecturers and other adult educators, curriculum or resource developers, journalists, writers, researchers, conservationists, development workers and social learning facilitators, and others.
The degree supports students to develop research capabilities, underpinned by a clear conceptual framework from which to understand and evaluate environmental education practice, social learning and Education for Sustainable Development globally and regionally. The course is designed to respond to a diversity of workplaces and learning contexts. Core to this degree is the question of how education can be re-oriented towards creative agency, sustainable futures, capabilities development and socio-ecological justice. Integral to this programme are issues of educational quality and relevance.
The degree is offered as either as a coursework plus a half thesis option or a full thesis option.
Option 1: Coursework & Half Thesis
The coursework/half thesis option includes compulsory contact sessions (4 weeks in Year 1 and 4 weeks in Year 2) as well as additional supervision sessions in-between. The coursework includes a series of assignments and an examination component at the end of Year 1, and the supported completion of a half-thesis in year 2. The coursework Masters programme is therefore offered every two years.
Next intake: 2017/2018.
Applications for 2017/18 M.Ed now open!
Option 2: Full Thesis
The full thesis option requires more independent work and a more extensive thesis, however, even if you select the full thesis option you are encouraged to participate in the coursework sessions in order to locate your own work in relation to cutting-edge and contemporary research in the field of environmental education as well as in relation to specific research programmes in the Environmental Learning Research Centre. Special consideration may be made for FULL TIME, FULL THESIS students with strong motivations wanting to apply outside of the 2-year coursework framework.
Please contact Dr Ingrid Schudel (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you would like to explore this option.
