Climate Change Learning Commons

Learning what to do in on a community level in the face of new risks posed by climate change, is the focus of this Sustainability Commons Learning Project. It involves participating in learning activities such as:
- Saving seed and planting a more diverse range of drought resistant crops
- Implementing more sustainable water harvesting technologies
- Assessing local risk and vulnerability to inform integrated development planning at a local level
- Improving service delivery
- Engaging in climate change COPART social learning activities
- Planting trees
- Strengthening indigenous knowledge practices to enhance resilience
- Saving energy and finding ways to use energy more sustainably
Key partners in this Sustainability Commons Learning Network include (amongst others): the Rhodes University Environmental Learning Research Centre; the Rhodes University Environmental Science Department and its IDRC Research Project on Climate Change Adaptation in rural areas; the SADC Regional Environmental Education Programme; ARKWORK; the Applied Centre for Climate and Earth System Sciences (ACCESS); the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA); Share-Net; the Makana Millennium Tree Planting Project; COPART, and the SADC/SWEDESD (Swedish International Centre for Education for Sustainable Development) climate change education research network. This Sustainability Commons Learning Project is a project of the Makana Regional Centre of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development.
