Cultural Heritage Learning Commons
Learning to value cultural heritage practices that contribute to sustainable lifestyles and futures is the focus of this Sustainability Commons Learning Project. It involves in participating in learning practices such as:
• Recovering and valuing indigenous knowledge
• Assessing local cultural heritage resources
• Undertaking heritage impact assessments
• Conserving valuable local tangible and intangible heritage
• Valuing diversity and documenting heritage
Key partners in this Sustainability Commons Learning Network include (amongst others): the South African Heritage Resources Agency, the Albany Museum and Makana Municipality, the Egazini Project, the Cory Library at Rhodes University, the Rhodes University Anthropology Department and UNESCO’s cultural heritage programmes, the Wilderness Foundation, South African National Parks, the National Arts Festival, and local artists and crafts workers. This Sustainability Commons Learning Project is a project of the Makana Regional Centre of Expertise in Education for Sustainable Development.
