Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)

Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ser) consists of a network of fine membrane-bound tubules which do not bear ribosomes. It is particularly abundant in cells that produce lipids such as those labelled "l" on the image below, and steroid hormones. Also labelled on the image below is the mitochondrion (m).
