The 2011 conference of the Association of University English Teachers of Southern Africa will be held at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, 13 - 15 July.

The website with the Call for Papers, Registration form and other details is now live: http://www.atashost.co.za/AUETSA/

Abstracts of proposed papers (20 minutes' delivery time), of no more than 200 words, should be submitted as an MS Word attachment to conference@ru.ac.za by 31 March 2011 at the latest.

Internationally acclaimed and award-winning South African short story writer and novelist, Ivan Vladislavic, visited the English Department in September. As part of the South African Literature in Focus project, the English Department has introduced a post-graduate course entitled South African Writers in Focus and Vladislavic is one of the authors who was selected for intensive consideration. He is also taught in other courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and he is the subject of research in the department.
