Jenny du Preez

Jenny du Preez

Jenny du Preez was born and raised in Port Elizabeth. She received her MA in South African women’s poetry from NMMU in 2014. Her main research interests are gender, sexuality and African literature. She teaches English literature when she is not trying to write her PhD, and dabbles in writing fiction.

Jenny’s doctoral research explores how ‘queer’ sexualities and genders are represented in African women’s short fiction published after 2000, with particular focus on the complex ways in which various factors are shown to intersect in the lives of the characters and mediate their experiences, identities and behaviours.

Jenny is the recipient of the NIHSS/SAHUDA doctoral scholarship and her thesis is supervised by Dr. Lynda Gichanda Spencer.
