I am originally from Johannesburg, though now prefer the coast and spend the majority of my time in the Garden Route. I am currently in my second year of Masters: studying the British author Jeanette Winterson and her use of the Bible in her texts to subvert patriarchal discourses. In my spare time I write for various online publications and take seriously my love of photography.
My thesis title is “Challenging Biblical Boundaries: Jeanette Winterson’s Feminist Subversion of Biblical Discourse in Selected Texts”. My thesis aims to examine Jeanette Winterson’s resistance to dominant biblical/patriarchal discourses in her first two novels Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit and Boating for Beginners (1985).
My supervisor is Dr Sam Naidu.
I have been the recipient of the Nestle Future Talent Award for excellent matric results (2010/2011), and the Whiting Patterson Scholarship (2014).
